Editorial Standards
These are the rules our newsroom works by, in every language edition.
Accuracy and attribution
We report what we can establish and we say where information comes from. When officials, organizations or media reports are the source of a claim, the text names them. When something cannot be confirmed, we either leave it out or say plainly that it is unconfirmed.
Corrections and updates
When we get something wrong, we fix the article and mark it with an update date. If you spot an error, use the contact form and we will check it.
Clear labels
News reporting, opinion and commercial content are kept apart. Opinion pieces appear in the Viewpoints section. Paid or partner material never mixes with news coverage: it is published only under the Desk Wire label, with its own byline.
One desk, nine languages
All editions are produced from the same reporting. The facts in an article are the same in every language; only the language changes.
