How to Travel Around Israel by Public Transport, from the Airport to the Weekend Timetable

For a first visit to Israel, plan the whole journey before choosing a ticket: your airport terminal, the station or stop nearest your destination, and the service available at the hour you travel. A train that reaches the correct city may still leave a substantial final journey to your hotel.

Start with the airport terminal

Ben Gurion Airport’s rail connection serves Terminal 3. The Israel Airports Authority says passengers using Terminal 1 can transfer between the terminals on its free internal shuttle. Check the terminal shown for your actual flight, and allow time for the transfer rather than treating both terminals as one building.

Use Israel Railways for the timetable on your travel date. For a taxi, follow the airport’s licensed taxi arrangements. The authority lists licensed taxis at Terminal 3’s ground floor, Gate 03, and states that fares are by meter. Confirm the destination before leaving; traffic and timing affect the final charge.

Choose payment before boarding

Rav-Kav is the reusable public transport card. Rav-Kav Online lists stored value, single journeys and daily or monthly travel products, with loading available through its services and physical service points. Select a product that covers your actual journey, including any rail segment, rather than assuming every pass covers every mode.

Loading money or buying a pass is separate from validating travel. Follow the operator’s validation instructions for each journey. If you prefer an approved payment app, complete registration and check that your phone, payment card and mobile connection work before reaching the stop. Keep the phone charged throughout the trip.

Make a separate Friday and Saturday plan

Many regular services stop for Shabbat, from Friday into Saturday evening. The exact final and first departures vary by route and season. A weekday journey displayed in a map search is not evidence that the same connection operates on Saturday; enter the intended date and time.

Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality describes a free weekend transport network serving parts of the metropolitan area. It is a separate service with its own routes and hours, not a replacement for the national railway. Check the current Naim Busofash timetable and your last return journey before relying on it.

Check the final connection, price and accessibility

Compare complete journeys, including transfers and walking. Tel Aviv’s municipal guide lists a single bus ride at NIS 8 as checked on October 27, 2026; other journeys and travel products can cost differently. Consult the operator’s fare for your route, and do not assume a discount advertised for eligible Israeli residents applies to a visitor.

For travel without steps, check lifts, station access and assistance arrangements directly with the operator. Keep your destination’s address in Hebrew and your preferred language, plus a backup taxi option. Recheck service notices shortly before departure: engineering works, holidays and security instructions can change a journey that was available when you first planned it.
