Why a New Israel News Site, and Why Nine Languages

Launching another news site about Israel requires a justification, because the world does not lack Israel coverage. By some counts no country its size is covered more. So here is the justification, stated plainly, as the standing editorial position of this site.

What is missing is context, not coverage

The typical Israel story arrives stripped: a strike without the rocket before it, a protest without the law being protested, a casualty figure without its source. Readers get conclusions and are left to supply the background themselves. This site's bet is the opposite: that readers want the background. That is why our sections carry standing explainers, why articles link inward to context rather than outward to noise, and why we would rather publish one story a day with its history attached than ten stripped ones.

Where we stand

This site is written from Israel, and it does not pretend to a view from nowhere. We think Israel's existence and defense are legitimate; we cover its enemies as enemies of the state we report from, and we say terrorist when a designated terrorist organization acts. That is a disclosed position, not a hidden one. Within it, we hold to the discipline that makes news worth reading: facts attributed, numbers sourced, corrections published, and failures of Israeli governments and institutions reported as news, because they are.

Why nine languages

The argument about Israel is multilingual. It happens in Arabic and Persian, in French and German, in Spanish, Portuguese and Russian, usually with no Israel-based voice in the room. Machine translation moves words; it does not move editorial care. So each story here is published in nine full editions, written for the reader of that language rather than run through a converter. A reader in Tehran or Paris or São Paulo gets the same facts as a reader in Tel Aviv, in their own language, on the same day.

What we promise

Four commitments, kept visible so readers can hold us to them. Sources named or characterized honestly, and claims attributed to whoever made them. Context in every story, or a link to it. Corrections published openly, not slipped in. And a strict wall between journalism and anything commercial, which lives in its own clearly marked section and nowhere else.

What we ask

Read us alongside others, including outlets we argue with. A reader who checks several imperfect sources against each other is better informed than one who trusts any single perfect-seeming one, and we intend to earn our place on that reading list rather than assume it. The desk is open. Hold us to all of this.
