IDF Strikes Gaza Tunnel Exit as Separate Operations Target Hamas Specialists

Israeli troops identified three terrorists emerging from a tunnel shaft in the Khan Yunis area on October 25, and an aircraft struck both the shaft and the men shortly afterward, the Israel Defense Forces said. The military reported hits and secondary explosions, which it assessed as evidence of weapons inside the shaft.

A tunnel opening exposed an immediate threat

The IDF placed the incident west of the Yellow Line, the military demarcation used in the Gaza ceasefire arrangements. Its October 26 update described a sequence beginning with the identification of the three men and ending with the airstrike. It did not announce their names or confirm that all three had been eliminated.

The secondary explosions are part of the military’s account of the strike. They support its assessment that weapons were present, but the public information does not provide an inventory or identify the ammunition involved. The Israel Desk could not independently find information about the shaft’s full route or dimensions.

Intelligence and engineering commanders targeted separately

In another announcement that day, the IDF and Israel Security Agency, also known as the Shin Bet, said they had eliminated Muhammad Halawa, a commander in the military intelligence apparatus of Hamas’s military wing. That operation took place on October 24.

The IDF also identified Ahmad Zuhair Fuad Abu Ouda as a Hamas engineering commander eliminated in a separate strike the previous week. The military said the men had advanced terrorist operations against Israeli troops and civilians and worked to restore Hamas’s capabilities. These were separate cases, with different dates; neither man was identified as one of the three emerging from the tunnel.

A sniper position and other operatives

The evening update added another layer. The IDF said strikes on October 25 eliminated two Palestinian Islamic Jihad operatives and a Hamas sniper operative who had promoted attacks on Israeli forces. It separately announced the elimination of a Hamas Nukhba cell leader in northern Gaza during the weekend.

The military also reported identifying and destroying a building in northern Gaza that served as a sniper position against its troops. Taken together, the announcements covered personnel, a firing position and underground infrastructure, rather than a single raid or one group of targets.

What the operations reveal about the continuing mission

The IDF described the targeted operatives’ efforts to rebuild military capabilities as repeated violations of the ceasefire. The operational problem outlined in its statements extends beyond a visible armed group: intelligence personnel, engineering expertise, tunnel access and sniper positions can each support further attacks.

The published updates identify specific actions, not a final accounting of Hamas’s remaining strength. They provide no basis for calculating how much of the tunnel network survives. For readers tracking the campaign, the clearest development is the continuing effort to interrupt both immediate threats and the specialist capabilities terrorist organizations use to rebuild.
